Week 8_Giving Good Presentations

What should a presenter do and not do to be successful.

Do’s: I am a singer since the age of 5, so, I have learned at a young age, how to work the room. Your audience wants to be entertained in somewhat the same way when giving a presentation.
Do’s: Be yourself. This is your shot at charming the audience with who you really are. Show your passion.
Do’s: Practice with a friend if you can before your professional presentation. If not, practice yourself.
Do: Try to relax by using relaxation techniques.
Do: Know the material. Do not read it from the monitor or the presentation. Have notes on the side.
Do: End with a question to engage the audience by making them part of the presentation and by making them feel important.
Don’t: You should not take the technology for granted, test it, then, test it again.  Without the technology working, it can derail the entire beginning.  The audience will loose interest before you even start.
Don’t: Be boring. Get their attention from the beginning, and keep it.
Don’t: Do not let others in the room intimidate you. Your confidence or lack of it will show.
Don’t: Say you know or a, or ammmm. If you have a week moment, just take a breath and focus on the topic. Use intelligent words. You’re being judged so make it good. This is your chance to shine or die but, at least you have the chance! Stay confident.

Week 7 Blog

I think that when communicating with someone in school at City University, it would be great to have the option to have their picture next to their name so that you can see just who you are talking to when communicating.

Fear losing or being without your mobile phone is now called fear nomophobia. The phobia also includes the anxiety someone feels when not in the range of a cell tower to receive optimal reception.  When it comes to technology and the use of the World Wide Web, I worry that it does not make the planet a lonelier place.

Week 6_Post_2

When working in teams, taking the personality test from PM408 is a key aspect of knowing the different personality types that you will be working with.  Have everyone in your team take this test.  Then, tell how a story of how they fit into the 4 different types of personalities.  It helps people in teams understand each other more when it comes to strengths and weaknesses in communication.

Week 6

Dear Dr. Gail:

When addressing people in business or in pleasure, in writing or verbally, remembering  their names us critical.  I noticed that in my Management Communications class and in many other classes, people do not address each other by their name.

Also, people do not sign their names to posts.  Why I wonder.

Maybe because of the following:
1. They are afraid of what a person will think of them and their thoughts?
2. They do not care about the person enough to address them by their name?

I think this a good question to bring up in class.

Respectfully,

Janice

Week 5 Post_Project Manageing Teams

I leaned this week that when it comes to teams, many just wait to see what everyone else will do because they don't know how to pull teams together.

I have also learned that I should be charging City University for all of the extra work I have done leading all of these teams.

I learned that I continually teach students how to create and be productive in teams.  Although I get frustrated because it's not all my job, it only makes me stronger for it.
